By Steve Turner

Even though all drivers in the state must have Kentucky Auto Insurance coverage, they will not all have the same policy. There are a number of different types of coverage that allow you to have a various options available.

The basic type of coverage is liability insurance and is usually what it mandated by the state. Not all states require drivers to have insurance coverage but most do. Damage to other's property and persons is covered by liability insurance.

In the event of an accident you and your passengers will receive protection and payment for medical bills by having bodily injury coverage. Another term used for this is personal injury protection or PIP.

While drivers are required by law to have auto insurance coverage, that does not mean that all do so. Uninsured motorists coverage will help to pay for your medical expenses if you are in an accident with such a person.

To have protection in events such as fire and theft you need to add comprehensive coverage to your policy. If you are financing your vehicle currently you will have to have this type of coverage.

You will need to add collision coverage if you have financing as well. Collision coverage is part of what is considered full coverage auto insurance.

Rental car coverage, roadside assistance, and mechanical breakdown coverage are other items that you can add to your policy. To ensure that you have the appropriate types and amounts of coverage for your situation talk with an insurance agent that is well informed in your options.
